signature actions

stay up late, wake up early.
watch the sun rise, watch the sun set.
my life is full of moments that i dont know how to regret.

hit the gas, hit the brake.
mom always says be careful.
so even in my carelessness i cant help but be careful.

hello, goodbye.
i arrived and left.
dismissing-ly attached so i wont be sad if you left.

recycled feelings.
visiting some past memories.
i refrain from wearing them around, like accessories.

max volume, all i hear.
i feel the music so loud.
and nothing exists; nothing but the current sound.

the accumulation of waking up early, working all day, then staying up late. fatigue drives me to write interesting things.

no more alarm clock.

no more alarm clock. my body seems to say.
i love that i can just wake up early, like right before the sun comes up or right after it comee; all without actually setting my alarm.
of course the constant waking up at 7am for work, and 2nd semester of freshman year when i woke up at 5:30 every tuesday and thursday, have given me this ability.
i love it very much; waking up early and getting stuff done.
i feel like the day is longer. which is really the only thing i have ever seen as short.

i dont believe life is short. life is the longest thing anyone can ever do, well except death. but no one is actually being dead.
but the day, thats a different story. sometimes i feel like it just goes by way to fast, and i dont get the chance to do everything that i wanted.
but when i wake up early and go to sleep late i get so much done.
if not in school work or at work, then mentally.
even if i dont do anything at all and just take a mental health day, if i wake up early and go to sleep late it feels longer and better.

and right now it is not even 12 yet and i have been very productive so far. i have work at 4 but i shall make the most of the long hours before then.

Seasons change, things rearange...

My growth as a writer, since my first day of English 1101 last semester, has been more than extremely significant. I feel like I have learned how to use the fundamentals from high school in order to be able to learn how to write narratives, evaluations, and most importantly arguments, in my 1101 and 1102 classes. I have progressed in my ability to produce thesis statements, effective intros and conclusions, and in MLA citations. I have also grown to see everything as an argument, and evaluate those arguments through ethos, logos and pathos. I believe that my understanding of ethos, logos, and pathos has led me to be more persuasive and effective in my writing. I can see that, from my first college paper ever to my last one, I write less awkward sentences and produce ideas more clearly. I feel that because of 1102 I have been extremely successful in learning how to write effective arguments. The assignments in 1102 are ones that I believe I was able to succeed in writing and staying on topic about. I think that I was able to accomplish all of the demands in the assignment sheets, in order to write the best papers that I could. The assignments and papers that I wrote since 1101 to 1102 are ones that I feel have helped me to grow as a writer. They have shaped and formed me into the writer I am now, and I believe that I will look back to them when ever I have another paper to write. What I have learned in 1101 and 1102 are things that I believe will follow me as a writer and a reader for the rest of my writing and reading days.

Life without technology?!

One piece of technology that I could definitely live without is the Television. I barely, if ever, watch television for several different reasons. For one, I don’t like sitting down for a long period of time doing pretty much nothing. Yea it is entertaining, but if it is not the history or discovery channel, it is easy for me to doze off into a nap or some random thought. Another reason that I could live with out TV is that many of the shows are repetitive. The same things and stories over and over again, just different characters. I also believe that television is the main source of a lot of the government propaganda, in this, and all countries. Some kids no a days watch so much TV that there is actually a national "turn of the TV" week. Don’t get me wrong, some shows are funny and entertaining, but most of the stuff projected on those screens is useless. I also don’t disagree with watching movies, but as long as they are DVDs and not TV versions of movies which censor and destroy the art of a film. I truly believe that a world with out televisions would be a much better place. And although some may argue that TV provides valuable information like the news, I believe that many people nowadays use the internet as their main news source so they would not have a problem with the elimination of the television.

Questioning the Questions...

Recently, actually it was on Friday, I went to a Pink Floyd tribute concert at the ATL Loft on West Peachtree St. in Atlanta Georgia. This was the first, but definitely not the last, rock concert that I have attended. The atmosphere was rather…Smokey; the place was filled with cigarette smoke from the moment I walked in. And although the flyer stated that the band would start playing at 9:00, the band didn’t actually get on stage until 10:38. The music that the band played was from the late 60’s to the early 90’s. Being that this was my first attendance of a rock concert I was very unfamiliar with the rules and norms of such a scene. I was shocked to see people openly taking drugs and practically having sex in such a public location. I was also surprised by the number of people that didn’t even know what band the concert was a tribute to, or any of the songs played. But I was not surprised at the fact that my best friend, I, and the two security guards were the only minorities present at the event.
My attendance of this concert made me ponder about society and the different norms that are accepted in different situations. It was interesting to me how the security guards clearly saw most off the people there engaging in illegal activities, or activities that are not generally accepted in other public places. I wondered:
Why the security guards let people openly smoke marijuana?
Why people were engaging in sexual activity in plain sight of the whole club?
How has the rock and roll culture changed since the 60’s?
Why music artist insist on starting their set later than they planned to?
Why there were only four minorities at a Pink Floyd tribute concert?
Why and how does music touch people in such an extreme way?
Why Pink Floyd’s music is so amazing?

"Hey old sport" -Gatsby

In the movie The Great Gatsby the American Dream is portrayed as elegance with a hint of love, money, and happiness, but mostly elegance. The movie does this with scenes of big lavish homes and nice expensive cars. A scene that truly portrays the movie’s emphasis on the American dream being about money is the restaurant scene when Mr. Buchanan asks Nick what he is doing at such a nice and expensive business restaurant. It is as if he is telling him that he does not make enough money to enjoy the true joys of the American Dream. According to the movie, the dream consists of making money, owning nice things, and of loving and having an affair with who ever you want. The movie puts emphasis on popularity and knowing many people. The Great Gatsby also portrays an American dream that is full of parting and carelessness. It does this by showing the lavish and random parties thrown once every fortnight by Gatsby. At the parties people tend to not even know each other and everyone is dressed to empress. To them the American Dream is all about money and having fun no matter where you are. This portrayal of the dream done by The Great Gatsby says that many people feel like this is the true American Dream. The American Dream has many interpretations and this is just one of them; which shows that some people view the dream as having lots of money and going out to party at nice mansions.
